Are We On?

Observing for Spring 2009

is Finished!

Observational Project General Information

Hello all. Welcome to the observational project.

My name is Andrew, and I'll be your telescope operator. On these pages you should find all of the information you will need to successfully acquire data for the observational project. I will quickly cover a few basics.

Be sure to check the Observing Instructions for important information

Contacting me.

The best way to contact me is by email, .
You can also contact me by phone in the APS Lab at (612) 625-0580.
Of course you can also stop by the APS Lab (room 485B Physics) for a visit any time. Be aware, that if the door is closed, you'll need to knock loudly for me to hear it.

Scheduling trips to O'Brien

This part is a little tough, since we are at the mercy of the weather on any given night. My current plan is to make a schedule once a week. On each night of the week, three people will be scheduled. If the weather is clear, we will all trundle out to O'Brien and observe. If it's not clear, the same three people will appear on the schedule on the same day during the following week.

I will send an email over the weekend to everyone who is scheduled for the following week. On the day you are scheduled, check this page for weather updates. Once I have decided if we are going or not, I will post a message here on the front page and on the schedule page.
You are responsible for checking here for weather updates.

Retrieving your data

After each observing run, I will zip up and stage the data at the link above. I will also put a scanned copy of the night's observing log in the zip file with the data.
